Recognised Spark Business

Second year English Language & Linguistics student, Lili Jaber’s online jewellery business, Duckbubble Design was created in the midst of the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic. Starting as just a hobby during lockdown, Lili started selling to friends and family who loved the products and then decided to create an Etsy platform where she could sell her accessories. In the years that followed, Lili undertook business strategy courses and experimented with different product materials, testing which accessories were the most well received by customers.

“Running the business alongside my degree has been a massive challenge, but receiving hundreds of five-star reviews every year, along with brilliant feedback, is what spurs me on to keep creating and selling.”

“Spark have been immensely supportive of my small business through both advisory support and funding. Preliminary meetings with Spark advisors helped me develop a pricing strategy that struck a perfect balance between profitability and customer satisfaction. They also conducted a comprehensive audit of my online shop and social media and identified key areas of improvement.”

This support gave Lilian the inspiration to develop a new digital marketing strategy, which encompassed search engine optimisation with a subscription to a keyword research tool called eRank. This has already increased organic traffic on her Etsy shop, improving the visibility and ranking of product listings. The personalised advice and expertise provided Lilian with the useful knowledge to transform key aspects of the business and motivated her to invest in product innovation.

Further to this, Lilian was able to receive £1000 worth of funding to boost her brand. Spark supported Lilian in the optimal ways in which this could be spent, including the creation of mailing lists, advertisement, and social media growth.

Duckbubble recently showcased their products at the Student Enterprise Week event allowing Lilian to successfully sell her handmade jewellery to over 500 students. It also gave her the opportunity to collaborate with other small business owners, one of whom she is organising a giveaway and product collaboration with.

“I hope to continue working with Spark in the coming years to eventually move to my own e-commerce website, where I can boost my sales and strengthen my brand further.”
