“Every successful career starts with an opportunity taken, but for so many that first opportunity just isn’t there. No Extra Source looks to take in determined, ambitious and entry-level workers in a role that tailors to their skills, interests and long-term career goals. Working as part of a start-up organisation to produce high-quality content and aid company growth, each member gains invaluable work experience – and all the skills that come with it - which they can use to launch themselves into the next phase of their career.”

No Extra Source

Jack has just completed his English Language and Linguistics degree at the University of Leeds, spending a year working as a digital marketing intern between his second and third years.

Jack found that securing this placement was especially difficult with his degree subject and it strayed from his original job search of a purely writing-based role, but this field seemed impossible to enter without a strong portfolio. Realising that there must be seas of people in the same boat as himself, Jack converted his personal blog – which was instrumental in securing his placement role – into an open, public blog. This means that writers of all backgrounds can submit their work on a completely flexible schedule, have it reviewed by a team of editors and published on the NES site to form their own portfolio, at no extra cost to them.

“Studying English Language and Linguistics, my entrepreneurial knowledge was somewhat sub-par when I started out, and SPARK has been pivotal in developing my business-minded skillset. From access to business development and legal advice, an office space in which to work with like-minded individuals and a £1,000 pre-concept grant, the organisation nor myself would not be where we are today without the continued support from the team at SPARK. Having now registered as a business, set out a clear, structured path to significant company growth and identified achievable paid partnerships, I really believe that the sky is the limit for myself and No Extra Source, and I can’t wait to continue working on it in collaboration with SPARK.”
